My dear,
I saw you turn away with a very heavy heart. You must not make things so hard for us, for it is hard to be philosophical when you are so sure of an absurdity. And you know far better than to believe anything you said. Your telegram has just come and one saying that Morris Carey Jr is just born at 12 noon and that all is well. I have answered saying that at least Valentine should be in his name. I am glad it is over.
I have thought in an exhausted sort of way about the Hospital and I think - if your plan fails - that Father had better be put in the hospital and Mr. Bonaparte in the Univ. Mr. Dixon would be warmly in favour of Father and Father would be of the greatest service to us and is intimate with the doctors and could probably prevent anything being done that they did not want. How to manage either I do not know. Harry says Welch has repeatedly spoken of the necessity of Father’s being in the Hospital. Mr. Bonaparte you could at least speak to in Univ. matters and that would be something.
Now about that other thing and my unfinished sentence. I have really wanted for some time to talk to you about it and Mr. Gwinn’s death makes me wish to talk still more - and above all if you think of your own accord of changing anything when could we do it.
I cannot tell about going home till I get Mamie’s letter tomorrow. I suppose it will be Friday unless you will surely spend next Sat week here and Sunday because then I cannot possibly be in Baltimore.
Goodnight and love me
