Description

Before successful applicants were permitted to take up residence at the Indigent Widow's and Single Women's Society they were required to sign an agreement that relinquished all their property "for the use of the said Society." The terms of admission would subsequently include other stipulations. Residents were expected to pay a thirty dollar entrance fee and provide their own furniture and bedding (if they did not bring their own furniture a fifty dollar fee was to be paid upon admission). In addition, the terms state that only women sixty years or older could be considered for admission.
