Description Feb. 3, 1930. To Female Society of Philadelphia. The women are enjoying the Needlework Guild garments also skirts and coats sent in by various people. Some of the larger women received money from the relief fund for underwear they needed badly and a few got rubbers too so they are pretty well supplied with clothing. Miss Slocum still reads once a week and very often brings candy and the women are all so pleased. Mrs. Shipley and Miss Morris also read to them during the month and very much enjoyed too. Sarah Carlin the white woman that had skin cancer and has been going to the Hahnemann Hospital Dispensary for radium treatment, all the sores on her face are healed and she is here sewing. She goes to the hospital for treatments on Saturdays. She wants to thank the Society for the pension of $4 a week for three months also the help in getting her the treatments free of charge that have done her so much good and we hope is a permanent cure. Elizabeth Beckley had another nasty fall on the street since we laid her off and while she is up and around she looks bad and is failing very fast. Her family is taking care of her. We have plenty of garments to make and all the hospitals want us to take more and more on account of the additions added to their buildings it means many more garments are needed. Mary Albright the helper in the quilting room is here after a three weeks illness. I am so sorry I forgot to thank the Ladies at the last meeting for the toaster they gave me for Christmas. I wrote Mrs. Dean my thanks but her not being present I want them to know how much I appreciate it. I did not have a toaster and always wanted one and I think I appreciate it more than anything else I could have gotten. Many, many thanks. Bertha S. Cranmer
